Animal is an electronic music score and performance created by composer Ash Fure. In this composition, titled "Animal: A Listening Gym," Ash interprets the flood of sub-bass and sprays of sonar clicks that envelop the interior walls of the Schwartzman Center at Yale University as atmospheric phenomena, or weather.
Together with Xavi L. Aguirre from stock-a-studio, we designed nine gym stations for Ash's performance. Each of these stations was crafted to directly engage with the body and contribute to the orchestration of sonic weather. Named for their sonic capabilities, the stations include: Wind Tunnel, Floodplain, Richter, Black Hole, Trip Wire, ILP, Pressure, and Animal.
